Stucco repair in Cochrane and Okotoks starts the same way it does in Calgary: someone walks the wall, finds where the finish has cracked, pocked or lost its bond, and writes down what the fix involves. That is the closest foothills reference we can point to. No primary source we have read names a specific hail event in Cochrane or Okotoks, so we will not describe one.
The City of Calgary says all communities within Calgary are equally exposed to hail, and that Calgary sits in what it calls hail alley. That statement is about Calgary, not these towns. The only way to know about your own wall is to have someone look at it.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) says hail damage is typically covered by home insurance policies, and it advises documenting damage with photos and calling your insurer or its claims department to report it. Cochrane grew by 24.5% between 2016 and 2021. A newer home may still be inside its new home warranty: Alberta's New Home Buyer Protection Act requires at least five years of building-envelope defect coverage on homes built under a permit applied for on or after 1 February 2014. Hail damage is not a defect, but a wall that is cracking early for no clear reason is worth checking against your warranty before you pay anyone.
Okotoks grew more slowly, 4.8% since 2016, and we have no dwelling-age breakdown for either town, so we will not guess at how old your stucco is. Calgary's own figures show how varied a housing stock can be: 26% of its occupied dwellings were built 1961-1980 and 20% were built 2001-2010. Whether your wall has a cement or an acrylic finish changes how a repair is done and how well a patch matches.

The freeze-thaw and chinook data we have is for Calgary: 117 freeze-thaw cycles in 2022, below the 30-year average of 128, and 54 chinook days against an average of 46. We have no separate count for Cochrane or Okotoks. Martini Stone Masonry, a Calgary contractor, describes water getting into small cracks, freezing and expanding, and the City of Calgary notes that moisture and snow can cause stucco to shrink and crack.
Stucco needs mild, dry weather to cure. Manufacturer guidance we have read sets a minimum of about 4 to 5°C at the wall, so many exterior repairs wait for spring. On permits, the City of Calgary says most like-for-like repair or replacement work does not need a permit, while changing to a different cladding material does. Those are Calgary's rules, and they are the ones we have read. Cochrane and Okotoks each set their own, so confirm with your town before you start and ask any contractor to name the licences they hold.
