A patch suits damage that is localized on a wall that is otherwise sound. Total Exteriors says repair fits when the damage is localized, moisture intrusion is minimal and has not spread, and the majority of the stucco is structurally sound. It lists widespread or structural damage, extensive moisture problems and stucco beyond its natural lifespan as the cases for replacement.
Two firms will not always agree on where that line falls, and lifespan figures vary from firm to firm, so treat any single number as that firm's view. Alberta.ca advises getting written estimates from more than one business. Ask each contractor to explain in writing why they chose a patch or a recoat.

It also says adding water while floating or trowelling will disturb the colour, and that variation is more noticeable in darker colours.
Age matters as much as batch. Calgary Parging says a cement finish and an acrylic finish age and weather differently. On heavily weathered or discontinued finishes it says it will tell you upfront if a perfect match is not achievable, and offer to refinish a full elevation instead. Martini Stone Masonry says matching an aged finish takes trial batches.
Ask any contractor how they plan to match your wall and whether a full-elevation refinish is on the table if the patch will not blend. Calgary Parging lists colour matching as an add-on of $230 to $575 before GST, so get it written into the quote.
Cement-based stucco needs warmth to cure. Imasco's traditional stucco guide specification says to do no stucco work when air and substrate temperatures are below 4°C or above 38°C for 24 hours before, during and after application, and to moist cure for a minimum of 48 hours. Its cement finish data sheet says the finish coat may go on after a minimum of 7 days in ideal conditions.
ADEX, another manufacturer, calls for ambient and surface temperatures at or above 5°C for a minimum of 24 hours for its base coat. It also says additives such as antifreeze or accelerators are strictly forbidden. Calgary Parging puts the best season at April through October and says off-season repairs need heated hoarding.
Durations differ by firm and by job. Calgary Parging says most repairs take 1 to 3 days depending on scope and weather. Calgary Stucco and Slate says some repairs take two trips and some up to four, with up to weeks in between so each layer cures. In winter, ask the contractor what can be done now, what needs a heated enclosure and what should wait for spring.
Firms publish different figures, so treat each as that firm's own. Calgary Parging lists small patch repairs at $550 to $1,125 and medium repairs at $1,250 to $2,650, before 5% GST. Dynamic Painting Inc. lists small hairline crack repair at $800 to $1,500 (April 2026, GST not stated). The contractor quotes your job after seeing the wall.

The City of Calgary says most repair or replacement work does not need a development or building permit, and its renovations page allows replacing exterior cladding with a similar material. Calgary Parging says off-season repairs need heated hoarding. Ask the contractor whether they will hoard and heat the wall or schedule the work for spring.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada says hail damage is typically covered by home insurance policies, so check your own policy. The City of Calgary advises contacting your home insurance provider before doing any repair work. IBC's steps include photographing the damage, calling your insurer and keeping receipts.
